Georgiana wanted to be alone with Hamish. She wanted to call him by his name and have him kiss her again. All that would be difficult to do under the watchful eye of their parents. She sighed inwardly, wishing that they were under cover of night and somewhere secluded.

Ester had wandered off, ostensibly to collect flowers as she and Hamish walked around the garden at a more sedate pace. He seemed content to simply be with her, without making an effort at conversation. She watched him from beneath her lashes, reveling in the strength of his broad shoulders. She imagined that he could pick her up in his arms, quite effortlessly.
